Interested in Taking an Online Course?
We want you to succeed in our Online Courses. Take a few minutes to review the following important information.
Taking part in an online class has many advantages. While most of our online courses are flexible in terms of when you put in the time, you can expect to average about the same amount of time as a normal lecture course. You choose when and where it is convenient for you to study. This does not mean the course will be easy. While there is no face-to-face class lecture, it is necessary that you are conscientious about the work required of you, motivated to get it done and self-disciplined to make it happen in good time. You are expected to be aware of the due date for assignments and to complete and submit all assignments on time. If you have any questions, be sure to contact the instructor immediately.
Each online course has a syllabus, relevant course material and readings, vocabulary, interactive forums for discussion in the course, and exams. While communication between the instructor and the student are not simultaneous as in a classroom situation, it is typical for it to occur through e-mail or the discussion board. You will be required to communicate with other students enrolled in the course. Students are encouraged to communicate with each other by email or by use of the discussion board. This is part of your participation grade.
Make sure the place where you plan to work on your class is quiet and you can work for periods of time without interruption. Schedule enough time during the week to do class work as well as homework, or you may become frustrated. Reserving the same time each day/week may be helpful.
Before enrolling in any of the classes, you will need to successfully complete
the Online Orientation course. This orientation will provide you with information
about how online courses work, what to expect, and how to prepare yourself.
Successful completion of this course will allow you to successfully navigate
through an online course in the Moodle platform, learn the basics of netiquette
and online safety and complete the lessons presented online, as well as how
to apply this knowledge to online learning in general. This is a great chance
to learn as well as take part in this relatively new technology. Have fun
with it!
